Image Formats:
GIF (pronounced "jiff") - Graphics Interchange Format
- Supports only 8-bit color (256 colors)
- Best for line art, logos, inline images, and screen captures with mostly solid colors,
little or no shading, few different colors
- Supports interlacing, transparency, and animation (GIF89a)
JPEG (pronounced "jay-peg") - Joint Photographic Experts Group
- Lossless - can be edited and re-edited without image degradation
- Best for photographic images with many colors
PNG (pronounced "ping") - Portable Network Graphics
- New to the Web; may not yet be supported by all browsers
